Troika Back in Greece in September

troika_nd_541_355The government’s economic team and the heads of the Troika are expected to meet again in September for the fifth review of the Greek program, in relation to a new settlement of the public debt.
After a meeting between Greek Finance Minister Gikas Hardouvelis and the representatives of Greece ‘s international lenders, a senior Finance Ministry official said that “there is a list of issues that need to be speeded up,” adding that “August will be a month of hard work.”
The same official noted that the Troika and the government had a “constructive and productive discussion without conflicts. It was a rather friendly discussion. They wanted to have an idea of where we stand and we discussed the progress of the program.”
However, the Greek side considers that its main “weapon” towards its lenders is the smooth execution of the budget, which gives the government the opportunity to raise issues regarding citizens’ relief.
The Troika’s announcement on the completion of the Greek economy’s mini-evaluation is expected as early as Thursday.
