The Greek-speaking primary schools “Socrates-Demosthenes” of the Hellenic Community of Greater Montreal (HCGM) will be facing problems after the Ministry of Education, Recreation and Sport in Québec (MELS) decided to gradually reduce the grants for the transportation of students to and from the school buildings. Moreover, MELS is eventually planning on completely eliminating the grants.
In particular, the Minister of Education informed the private schools of Quebec that the government was planning on making cuts, including those in grants for the transportation of students, which will be reduced by 33% for the school year 2014-15, 66% for 2015-16 and will be eliminated in 2016-17.
