Greek Parliament Enters Digital Era

Greek parliament1Greece ‘s parliament will vote for the first time Monday night using an electronic system, with MPs issued personalized smart cards, state news agency ANA-MPA reports.
The parliament’s belated entry into the digital era will significantly cut down the time spent on roll call votes, from about two hours currently, to ten minutes, according to parliament statistics.
The first bill to be voted electronically is one on prison reform, instituting maximum security prisons.
Still, the MPs may also vote with the old system of calling names from a catalog and verifying votes by hand so parliament employees can get the hang of the system.
