Greeks Look for Jobs in Foreign Employment Services

OAEDAbout one out of every hundred employed and unemployed Greeks has submitted a CV in the online platform of the European public employment service, EURES.
This was recorded in the quarterly report of the European Commission for Employment and Social Affairs, which was released yesterday. Furthermore, it added that CVs from Greeks amounted to 43,000 out of the 5,117,588 recorded as employed by the country.
In fact, the report showed a rapid increase in CV submissions, given that in June 2013 the relevant number stood at 39,000, in June 2012 at 29,000 and in June 2010 at just 9,000.
However, according to Eurostat, the number of Greek who have migrated  to work abroad reached 110,139, in 2012, compared to 110,823 in 2011 (-1%). Sixty percent of these Greek migrants have moved to countries within the EU and 40% in non-EU countries.
According to the Greek national statistical authority, 33,400 Greeks migrated to Germany in 2013 and 34,100 in 2012. During the 2013-2014 period, 149,000 Greeks migrated to the UK, while 8,700 migrated to the UK in 2012-2013.
According to the European Commission report, the newest trends in relation to the geographical mobility of workers within the EU shows that migrating Europeans exhibit higher rates of unemployment in comparison to those who decide to stay in their countries, although some of them find only temporary employment.
Measurements of the Special Eurobarometer shows that 29% of Greeks migrated to another European country in 2013, while in 2011 this figure stood at 27%.
Compared to the pre-crisis period (2004- 2008), according to the European Commission report, people who moved within the EU after 2009 come mostly from southern European countries and not countries of Eastern and Central Europe.
