Another Golden Dawn MP in Jail

matthaiopoulosGolden Dawn MP Artemis Matthaiopoulos has been jailed after making his plea before the investigating judges, Ioanna Klapa and Maria Dimitropoulou.
The investigating judges came to this decision because the Golden Dawn MP has been accused of the integration and directing of a criminal organization. Artemis Matthaiopoulos, as a member of the political party’s council, was close to GD’s leader, Nikos Michaloliakos, and knew about his activities. He also used force to promote the organization’s principles.
During his plea, Matthaiopoulos, who has been sent to Korydallos prison, did not answer any questions and filed a written statement which stated that his prosecution was a political act and argued that Golden Dawn is not a criminal organization.
Matthaiopoulos is the eighth Golden Dawn member to be taken into custody awaiting trial after Nikos Michaloliakos, Christos Pappas, Yiannis Lagos, Giorgos Germenis, Panagiotis Iliopoulos, Stathis Boukouras (who had been declared an independent MP at the time of his arrest) and Nikos Kouzilos. Meanwhile, the Judicial Council is expected to make a decision in regards to the issue of Eleni Zaroulia’s detention, after the disagreement between the prosecutor and investigating judges.
The investigating judges will call for additional pleas from the GD members whose immunity has been lifted in accordance to the decision of the Greek Parliament. This includes Nikos Michaloliakos and Christos Pappas, who are already in custody and awaiting trial, as well as Ilias Kasidiaris who has been released on conditions.
