Greek Band Imam Baildi Goes to 35th Montreal Jazz Festival

IMAM BAILDIThe Greek band, Imam Baildi, named after a traditional Greek dish, will perform two concerts during the Montreal International Jazz Festival on Saturday and Sunday, June 28 and 29. The concerts will be held at the big open Bell Scene.

The Montreal International Jazz Festival is one the biggest events of its kind. This year, 100,000 people have gathered to attend the event, which started June 26 and will end July 6. This year, The Montreal Jazz Festival will host legendary artists and some of the biggest names in jazz, like Aretha Franklin, BB King, Alain Lefevre, Andrew Bird, Ambrose Akinmusire and Diana Krall.

It’s the first time a Greek band will be participating in the open scene of the festival. Imam Baildi’s music has a strong rebetiko base, described by festival organizers as “Greek blues born in the early 20th century, lightly seasoned with a trip-hop, drum & bass and hip hop beats.’

The Greek band is expected to attract many Greek Canadian and Canadian fans, as it will give a splash of sonic Greek color to the Montreal Jazz festival.
