Wild Fires in Greece

fires GreeceFire fighters are battling against fires that burst on Thursday noon in two regions of Central Greece.
A Fire broke out at 12:55 pm in a forest in Agiokampos, Larissa. Two planes, eleven fire fighting vehicles, the fire brigade  and two Canadairs rushed to the area to extinguish the fire. The authorities created firebreaks as several cottages are scattered in the area. The fire threatened two residences, however no damages or injuries have been reported.
Another fire broke out at 2:00 pm in Malesina, Fthiotida and spread quickly in the area. The fire extended to a pine forest while strong winds and very high temperatures reaching 42°C make it difficult for fire fighters to put it out. Earlier on Thursday, the Greek fire brigade managed to extinguish a fire that burst in Kokkino, 20 km south of Malesina.
Apart from central Greece fires have broken out in the Peloponese, Halkidiki, northern Greece, northern Aegean islands as well as the Cyclades.
More specifically a large fire near the settlement Galataki, in Corinth has spread towards the residences of the area. As reported one house got burned while another one has been seriously damaged. The firemen are struggling to put the fire under control. In the area there are about 76 firemen and 35 fire fighting vehicles.
