Greek hotel owners in Athens, hit by the financial crisis in the last few years, have returned to the golden era of the Olympic Games and now watch their hotels being 100 percent full again. The large increase in tourist arrivals and conferences has created a sizeable demand in accomodations in Athens, which is becoming an inexpensive and attractive tourist and conference destination.
President of the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels was happy to spread the good news highlighting the fact that the number of tourists arriving in Athens is following an upward trend and more and more conferences are being held in the city this period.
According to data released by Athens International Airport, processed by the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises SETE, arrivals increased by 30.4 percent in May and 34.4 percent during the first five months of 2014, compared to the same periods in 2013.
Furthermore, it is highly important that this year Athens will host the international annual travel social media meeting TBEX 2014. It is one of the most popular and demanding organizations of the global touristic community, bringing together more than 1,000 travel bloggers, writers, content creators/contributors, and travel industry professionals.
