Five Greek films are selected for the 49th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF), one of the most important film events in Central and Eastern Europe. The festival will be held on July 4-12.

The first feature film of Yannis Veslemes with the title “Norway” is included in the film selection East of the West. The plot is about a pleasure-seeking vampire who arrives in Athens in 1984. Things look promising but as the evening wears off he finds himself involved in an elaborate plot and ultimately has to make a tough decision — compromise his ideals or risk his life.

The film “Xenia” directed by Panos H. Koutras will also be presented. “Xenia” has already participated in the 67th Cannes Festival and received positive reviews.  The film is about two brothers from Albania, who after the death of their mother head out in search of the Greek father they have never met.

Another Greek film participating in the KVIFF is directed by Athanasios Karanikolas and is called “At home.” Nadia works as a housemaid in a house on the coast of the Aegean Sea, but she is treated like a family member. Her relationship with the family will change dramatically, however, when the truth about their mutual affection will come out.

Stratos,” a film by Yannis Economides, will also be presented in the section Horizons. Stratos, a staid-looking man, is indebted to his “boss” for his life, so he decides to devote himself to a single task — getting the underworld kingpin out of prison.

Finally, “Late Season” by Danilo Caputo co-produced by Konstantina Stavrianou from Greece consists of three stories unfolding in an unspecified southern Italian provincial town that undergoes a dramatic buildup. The film has already been honored with the international screenwriting “Matador” award.
