Greek Finance Ministry Occupied by Suspended Cleaners

Greek Finance Ministry cleaning ladiesA symbolic occupation of the Greek Finance Ministry has been underway since this morning, by suspended cleaners. They are situated at the entrance of the building and have locked the door with chains. According to Greek news, authorities have rushed to the scene, while the chief of police gave a two-hour deadline for the cleaners to leave the Finance Ministry.
On May 15 the First Instance Court of Athens cancelled the 397 lay-offs of the Greek Finance Ministry’s cleaners. The cleaners stated that the Secretary of Revenue, Haris Theocharis, announced that he would not move forward with the court decision and that their reinstatement is a political decision.
The cleaners’ lawyer clarified that the decision is provisionally enforceable. “There is no excuse to not implement the court decision,” he said.
