Ultra-Marathon and Athens Half-Marathon Held with Success

athens-halfmarathon-Eight runners completed on Sunday the 255 kilometer nonstop Ultra- Marathon to the birthplace of the Olympic Games in Olympia, southern Greece.
The winner of the 3rd Dolichos Race which started from the archaeological site of Delphi on Friday afternoon was the Spanish Eusebio Bochons. He crossed the finish line in 38 hours, 37 minutes and 2 seconds. Haka Sakari from Finland was second with 38:47:55, and the Chinese Chen Penbin ranked third with 41:12:6.
Five Greek athletes joined the few runners who managed to complete the 48 hour route. Almost two hours after Chen Penbin, Greek runners Yannis Skourtaniotis and Yorgos Zahariadis crossed the finish line together in a show of solidarity. Yorgos Tassios ranked sixth, Thanassis Krigas came seventh and Nikolaos Simos came eighth with 45:40:20.
The Ultra-Marathon Race from Delphi to Olympia is one of the most demanding long distance races in the world as the athletes have to cross uphill asphalt roads and dirt trails.
12,000 participants in Athens Half-Marathon
Athens Half-Marathon which was held on Sunday morning attracted 12,000 participants. The winner of the 21-kilometer race was the Greek champion Michalis Parmakis, clocking 1:09:55.  Magda Gazea, the first woman in the race covered the distance in 1.22.09.
Apart from the 21-kilometer race, there were also three and five-kilometer races and a 1,000-meter race for children with special needs.
