Formula 1 Honors El Greco

lotus_el_greco_exhibitionThe Lotus F1 Team has decided to honor the memory of the famous Greek painter El Greco. Four hundreds years after the death of the artist, who was a leading figure of the Spanish Renaissance, Lotus will design a special car and helmets.

The racing cars of Pastor Maldonado and Romain Grosjean will bear an inscription that reads “El Greco 2014 Toledo Spain.”

The owner co-Chairman and Team Principal of the Lotus F1 Team, Gerard Lopez, will be visiting the Spanish Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy on Thursday, May 8, to offer him the commemorative helmet which bears the bust of the Greek painter. A similar helmet will also be offered to His Majesty King Juan Carlos I during his planned visit to the Lotus F1 Team motor home at the Circuit de Catalunya on Sunday May 11.

The Santa Cruz Museum in Toledo is currently holding an exhibition of El Greco’s work honoring the 400th anniversary of the artist’s death on April 7, 1614. The exhibition includes a hundred works of the Greek artist, many of which have arrived from different cities around the world. The exhibition is extending to different spaces throughout Toledo known as El Greco Venues.
