Million-Dollar Bounty on Killers of Two Greek-Australians

gunPolice in Victoria, Australia have put a bounty of one million Australian dollars on the murderers of each of two Greek-Australians, Dimitris Belias and Giorgos Germanos, who were killed more than a decade ago.

Both were victims of a gang war that shook Melbourne and left more than people 30 dead, including at least four Greek-Australians, and many injured, with several people already in prison.

Belias was shot in the head in cold blood in a parking lot in 1999. It appears that he had accumulated debts exceedeing one million dollars and he was not able to repay them.

Germanos, meanwhile, was executed mafia-style in a park in 2001 – a bullet to the head and one in the chest. The 41-year-old Greek-Australian used to be a weightlifting athlete but at the time of his death was working in nightclubs.

Police believe the two murders are related. They are offering one million dollars to anyone who can provide information that will lead to the arrest of one of the murderers.

Although many years have passed, police have since stepped up their efforts to find the murderers. Gang wars are still a problem in Melbourne and the trouble both the police and the judicial authorities.
