Lanthimos’ ‘The Lobster’ Begins Filming, Adds More Cast Members

LanthimosThe Lobster,” the first English language film from Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos, is moving forward and adding more exceptional talent to its already impressive ensemble cast.

John C. Reilly (“Magnolia,” “The Aviator”) is joining Colin Farrell (who replaces Jason Clarke), Rachel Weisz, Lea Seydoux, Ben Whishaw and Angeliki Papoulia in the upcoming romantic sci-fi/thriller.

Set in the future where single people must adhere to strict regulations when finding a partner, “The Lobster” was written by Lanthimos alongside his “Alps” and “Dogtooth” screenwriter Efthymis Filippou. The script was awarded with the ARTE International Award as Best CineMart Project for 2013 at the 42nd Rotterdam International Film Festival.

The film is being supported by a few production companies, including Element Pictures (Ireland), Limp (Lanthimos’ UK production company), Scarlet Films (UK), Faliro House (Greece) and Haut et Court (France). Shooting began on-location last week in Ireland, and is expected to last seven weeks. “The Lobster” is scheduled to release in U.S. theaters in 2015.
