15 Greek Prison Guards to Plea After Death of Inmate

prisonThe investigator of Serres, in Northern Greece has called on fifteen Nigrita prison guards to enter their plea on Saturday, April 5, as part of the main interrogation being conducted concerning the case of the 42-year-old lifer Ili Kareli.
The people involved will be called to enter their plea tomorrow, however it is very possible that the 15 prison officers will request more time to prepare their apology and for their lawyers to receive copies of the indictment.
According to judicial officials, the offense for which they will plea is that of aggravated torture against a prisoner, resulting in death. Furthermore, the act weighs both on those who contributed to the heinous act, as much as on those who did not prevent it or failed to take the required measures to prevent it.
The Nigrita prison director is not included in the 15 person list, but he will be facing misdemeanor charges for harboring a criminal.
In regards to Malandrino prison officials and police officers from Itea’s police department, they are being investigated for bringing illegal weapons into the prison and intentions of causing serious physical harm. However, if and when they become defendants, they will be asked to enter their plea in front of the investigating authorities of Amphissa.
