CNN presented an amazing video including 60,000 photos of the starry sky of the Greek island of Corfu, taken between 2010 and 2014. The five-minute video entitled “”Corfu Nightscapes — A Company of Stars” was produced by Vasilis Metallinos and John Miliadis.
CNN mentions that Corfu’s tourism organization should thank the two men as this stunning video is the best advertisement for the island while adding that “if you’re not inspired to head to Greece after seeing it, you probably didn’t full-screen this tribute to Hellenic beauty.”
The 29 year-old Metallinos became involved with astronomy about ten years ago. During the last seven years he has also been practicing astrophotography. As he told CNN, the project required patience. Many times it took him 8 to 9 hours to achieve the desired result while he also had to climb sharp rocks.
Metallinos gets inspired by his birthplace, Corfu and its stunning landscapes. He said that Corfu may not be the perfect place for stargazing, but the residents can still enjoy dark starry skies within the city. “What could be more beautiful than seeing Saturn’s rings or clouds and Jupiter’s Great Red Spot from the Esplanade Square, one of the largest squares in Europe with Venetian fortifications and French and English buildings?” he told CNN.
