EU Elections: Voting Process for Greeks Residing in Other EU Countries

Greek-EU-Elections-to-Become-More-DirectThe Greek Interior Ministry has already commenced its preparations for organizing the Greek vote in the upcoming European parliament elections for Greek citizens who reside in other EU countries and wish to exercise their electoral rights there.
According to an announcement by the Interior Ministry of Greece, Greek citizens residing in an EU country other than Greece, or being located in another EU country on election day, will be able to cast their vote in special electoral districts that will be set up in EU cities with dense Greek presence. All interested parties must fill out an application addressed to the Ministry of Interior, so as to be included in the special electoral lists.
The announcement by the Ministry
In order to set up special electoral districts and compile the associated special electoral lists, all Greeks interested in voting in the EU elections, must carry out following procedures:
– Online application: By using the online service provided by the Greek Ministry of Interior, interested voters must fill out an application-statement for exercising their electoral rights in the country they reside or in a neighboring country. Applications can be submitted: through the Consulate General of the Greek Embassy to London, other Consulate Generals, Diaspora associations or in person.
– Validation: Interested voters must then print three copies of the application and present them to local Greek diplomatic missions for validation. The contact information of the various diplomatic missions is available on the website of the Greek Interior Ministry. Along with the copies of the applications, voters must provide a valid ID card or passport and two copies of the documentation. Applications can also be submitted by a third party on behalf of the interested voter, who must possess valid authorization to submit another person’s application and ID card or passport.

– Hours & Admissions: Monday to Friday, 9:30 – 2:30. No appointment necessary.
– Special Electoral Lists: The local diplomatic missions, after validating all applications, will send them over to the Greek Interior Ministry in order for it to compile the special electoral lists of Greek voters residing or being located on the day of election in another EU member state. Upon completing the procedure, the Ministry will publish the electoral lists.
– The deadline for the applications is Friday, March 28, 2014.
