The municipality of Athens has dismissed the possibility of demolishing Panathinaikos F.C.’s home ground, Apostolos Nikolaidis, before the new stadium in Votanikos is built. The Athens Municipality official announcement, as released on its website, reads as follows:
“It is a positive fact that Panathinaikos’ official announcement describes the exact situation on the matter and reaffirms the clear and firm position of Athens’ municipality that there is no issue of demolishing Panathinaikos Stadium.
We would also like to mention:
1. The project for the new Panathinaikos Stadium in Votanikos is based on a trilateral agreement between the Greek State, the Municipality of Athens and Panathinaikos.
2. This trilateral agreement has created commitments and obligations for the all three parties. The municipality of Athens has allocated 35 million euros for the project.
A Presidential Decree states clearly that the “Apostolos Nikolaidis”Stadium should be demolished only if the Votanikos’ project, which includes a new stadium for Panathinaikos F.C., is first completed.”
