More than 20,000 Immigrants Have Returned to Their Countries From Greece

lathrometanastesMore than 20,000 immigrants that were living in Greece have returned to their countries, said the Head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Office in Greece, Daniel Esdras.
According to Mr. Esdras, 2013 was the first year when the immigrants who left Greece were more than those who entered the country.
Mr. Esdra visited Patras, Greece during the inauguration of IOM’s office in the city.
Daniel Esdras announced that  a hostel for accommodating unaccompanied immigrant minors will start operating in a few days in Patras.
He added that this hostel will provide these children with a safe place to live and a caring environment.
Moreover, Patras Mayor, Giannis Diamaras underlined that “we welcome the IOM’s office in our town. Its operation is of high importance for the local society.” He added that “the municipality has done its utmost not only in order for the number of immigrants to be reduced, but also in order to provide them with everything they need; food, clothing etc.”
He continued: “for us, immigrants are people who carry a heavy burden and are in need of our help in order to regain their lives and dignity. They are not our enemies. It is our duty to help them become active members of our society.”
