Johannes Hahn Appears Optimistic for Greece

johanes-hannThe Commissioner for Regional Policy of the European Union, Austrian Johannes Hahn, appears optimistic about the economic situation in Greece. Hahn reported to “Austrian Broadcasting,” the Austrian public service broadcaster, that signs of economic recovery will be visible by the end of the year.

The European Commissioner estimates that 2014 will be a good year for Greek tourism, which will provide the necessary incentives for development and growth.

Hahn claimed that the EU’s Regional Policy has contributed to the creation of 600,000 jobs, including some in Greece, at a time when 3,000,000 posts in Europe have been lost. He also pointed out that the European Union’s goal is to promote long-term employment.

Meanwhile, he noted that Greece, in order to recover, should promote investment in the fields of tourism and food manufacturing.

Johannes Hahn had previously expressed his optimism about the country’s progress during his last visit to Greece when he stated that “Greece is the only European state with a primary surplus in recent years,” adding that efforts on a national level will have to continue.
