Man Arrested For NGO's Debt to Greek State

xeiropedes-mko-660A 50-year-old former legal representative of a Greek non-governmental organization (NGO) has been arrested by the Greek police in Alexandroupoli, in northeastern Greece. According to the weekly newspaper To Pontiki,  he faces charges of owing the State more than one million euros.
This debt is related to the activity of the Hellenic Association for International Development (HAID) according to the newspaper’s report. The purpose of this NGO was to fight illiteracy among Muslim populations in Romania, Turkey, Ukraine and North Korea.
The 50-year-old man was presented before Alexandroupoli’s prosecutor.
