Informal EU Defense Meeting in Athens

The Informal EU Defense Meeting will be held at the Zappeion Megaron in Athens, on February 20 and 21, 2014. The meeting will be chaired by the Greek Minister of National Defense Dimitris Avramopoulos, as Greece currently holds the rotating six-month presidency of the EU.
The meeting will be attended by the EU Ministers of Defense and their teams, delegates from various European institutions and bodies, the Secretary General of NATO, Anders Fogh Rasmussen and the United Nations Under-Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations, Hervé Ladsous.
Among other things, Ministers will discuss the outcome of the European Council of last December and their future actions, in order to determine the EU’s Common Security and Defense Policy (CSDP) for the coming years.
Furthermore, they will discuss the ongoing EU military operations at the Horn of Africa, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mali and Somalia and the future EU operation in the Central African Republic, where the EU is planning to send troops.
The Secretary General of NATO is also meeting  with the Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras on February 21.
