Greek Australian Prodigy Surfer Wins Hawaii Event

Jack RobinsonA 16-year-old young man from Australia was recently crowned junior world champion in surfing, taming waves up to ten meters in the championship that was held in Hawaii. One hundred and thirty teens from all around the world participated in the championship and competed in the final phase.

Young teenager Jack Robinson, has Greek origins from his mother Mersina’s side of the family. His grandfather’s name is Vassilis Stratos and his grandmother’s name is also Mersina. His ancestors came from Mytilene and they were among the founding members of the Mytilenian Brotherhood of Western Australia. Furthermore, his great-grandmother, Mersina Skarlatou, was among the first Mytilenian women who migrated to Western Australia.

Jack is considered a teenage surfing prodigy. He comes from Yallingup, Western Australia, and he recently competed in the Pro Junior event at Sunset Beach, Hawaii and won. He was featured on the cover of “The Weekend Australian Magazine” in August 2010, aged 12, in which he was described as a potential future “Kelly Slater.”
