A Welcome Event for Newly-Arrived Greek Immigrants

Despite the extremely hot weather conditions, more than 1000 persons attended the event that was organized by the Hellenic Australian Community Support Association (HACSA) to welcome the newly arrived immigrants from Greece.

People from all ages and Greek immigrants of older generations were in attendance. There was great interest in the event among the Greek-Australian community. Indicative of this is the example of an 85-year-old Greek woman that lives in Melbourne. She did everything she could to attend the event and said the she is willing to do anything she can to help the HACSA’s effort. Her kind words moved the attendants.

In addition, all those who participated in the event had the opportunity to meet each other and taste Greek traditional dishes.

However, according to HACSA what matters most is the open dialogue between different people with totally different opinions. Moreover, the newly-arrived immigrants from Greece posed practical questions to the members of the community that will help them adapt faster to the new country.

Present at the event was also Greek-Australian Giannis Pantazopoulos, who is an MP of the Australian Labor party. The president of the Greek community, Vasileios Papastergiadis along with some other members of the community attended the event and expressed their support to HACSA.

The idea of HACSA was set up three years ago via the social media and step by step took its current shape. This association aims to help newly arrived immigrants from Greece establish themselves more quickly in local society. HACSA provides them with mental, moral and sometimes financial support. We should mention here that all these efforts by HACSA is based on people who voluntarily offer their services without expecting anything in return.
