Hotels in Kefalonia in Good Condition

Hotel Europa ancient OlympiaAs reported by the Panhellenic Federation of Hoteliers, the vast majority of the hotel units in the island of Kefalonia, Greece are in a good condition, assuring that there are no reported problems and that Kefalonia is ready to welcome and accommodate both Greek and foreign visitors.
With an official statement the Greek Hoteliers express their support to those who are going through hard times after the great earthquake that hit the island on Sunday, January 26. The board the of the Panhellenic Federation of Hoteliers keeps an open line of communication with the Kefalonia-Ithaca Hotel Association and they are constantly updated on the progress of seismic sequence and the situation of the island.
The Kefalonia-Ithaca Hotel Association is collaborating with the regional authorities and the municipality of Kefalonia to assist in the relief of the earthquake victims.
The strong earthquake and the aftershocks that hit the island caused damages but fortunately there were no injuries. In Lixouri, three schools were declared unfit for use and all schools on the island will be closed until the end of the week. Many homes have been badly damaged or destroyed. In Argostoli one in four buildings has been declared unfit for use and the port was partly damaged. The village of Atheras was also evacuated on Monday for fear of landslides.
