Greece Among Top 20 in Nutrition

Greek diet_nutrition_foodExperts of the global organization Oxfam America, rank Greece among the 20 best countries in the world to eat.
According to the latest report published by the group working to right the wrongs of poverty, hunger, and injustice, Greece ranks 13th worldwide.
The basic criteria for the study, which was carried out in collaboration with the United Nations, were the following:
1) Is there enough food for everyone?
2) Are the people able to pay for it?
3) Is the food of good quality?
4) Which is the extent of obesity and diabetes due to overeating?
Greece’s rank is co-shared with several other European countries, including Cyprus, Spain, Germany, Iceland, Finland, Norway and the United Kingdom.
As for champion quality, cheap and adequate food emerge in the Netherlands with 6 points, followed by France and Switzerland with 8 points, Austria, Belgium, Denmark and Sweden with 10 points and Australia, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg and Portugal with 11 points.
As for the world’s worst place to eat, this is according to the report the country Chad, where the little food available is of poor nutritional value, expensive and prepared in poor hygienic conditions.
Our country may be in a good place with regard to nutrition, but is somewhere in the middle of the world ranking concerning obesity and diabetes. In other recent reports, it is revealed that Greeks are European champions in obesity.
Nevertheless, Greece is better off than the United States, where rates of obesity and diabetes are particularly high.
The report also draws the conclusion that every night somewhere in the world one in eight people, in other words around 840 million people go to bed hungry, although there is enough food available for everyone on a global level…
