Greeks in Crisis

Greeks-in-CrisisA recent survey by the Greek Statistical Service (MRB Hellas) showed that Greeks are in crisis. In this case not financial, but a psychological one that divides the nation politically and socially.
The results of the survey carried out by MRB Hellas between December 2-11, 2013, showed a “schizophrenic situation,” as described by the Chief Executive Officer of the service. But what does this mean?
While negative emotions such as frustration, fear and anger were reported by 90% of respondents, those hoping for better things next year, rose from 12% to 17%. The feeling of disappointment stands at 66%, while anger fell from 64% to 51%. A total of 70% of respondents believe that they may lose their jobs in the next few months, while 26% fear for them in the longer term. Moreover, 67% report that they make a living with great difficulty and 85% would like to see a restriction of troika’s actions. However the hope that things will improve is strong among Greeks (77%).
Meanwhile, the difficulties of everyday life, the bombarding of citizens with bills, the threat of repossession, expenses and debts that create significant pressure, has changed their values and divides the public opinion. Even their political choices no longer derive from their beliefs, but from their desire to punish someone for their suffering.
Despite these blurred emotions between depression and optimism, it appears that health is of primary concern for Greeks. Although unemployment remains a constant problem, they cite their health as being as important as their income.
