Greek Study Reveals Myths And Truths About Female Sexuality

Myths And Truths About Female Sexuality
A national research conducted by the International Institute of Andrology and the Women’s Institute of Sexual Health in Greece showed that when it comes to sexuality, women and men don’t think so different after all…
Results acquired from research conducted on 400 women in Athens and Thessaloniki, Greece, negate the dominant perception that sexual dysfunction occurs mainly in men. The brain areas that control sexual drive and fantasies are the same in both sexes.
The main aim of this study is to show the conflict between society stereotypes and the scientific reality. What are the truths and myths surrounding female sexuality?
Myths
1. Women are ashamed to talk about their sex life. On the contrary, 83% of women asked, said they would be happy to talk to a specialist in order to solve their or their partner’s sexual problem. In fact, 50% of the people calling the Greek Society for the Study of Human Sexuality (EMAS) hotline are women who ask how they can convince their partner to treat a sexual problem.
2. Women don’t initiate sexual acts. In reality women not only initiate the sexual act, but also appear ready to consume drugs (eg. Viagra) in order to improve their love life.
3. Men rely more on self-satisfaction compared to women. Not true! According to the research, 60% of women rely on self-satisfaction, a percentage that appears to be higher than that of men.
4. Women are attracted to the spiritual qualities of a man and his appearance is not of great importance. Most women are attracted to the man’s body (especially the buttocks, back, legs, and the abdomen-chest area).
5. Women are monogamous and men are polygamous. The research showed that 30% of women admit the existence of other sexual partners. This percentage almost reaches the number of men who admitted the same thing.
Truths
1. During and after menopause, women have more frequent and stronger orgasms, as well as improved sexual stimulation.
2. Women consider the sexual act as an important factor in their quality of life and they don’t worry about social taboos as much as they used to do.
3. The female genitalia is richer in sensory endings in comparison to men. The female clitoris has 6000 edges while the male penis only has 400. The devaluation of its role has more to do with social than biological reasons.
4. Women today still show that there is a big gap in their way of expressing sexuality. However many taboos concerning the equality of genders in a relationship have been broken.
5. Women don’t have visible orgasms, thus facing not only psychological but also biological problems. Nowadays science considers psychology and biology to be interrelated.
