Cruel Racist Attack in Athens

attackedThe humanitarian aid organization, Doctors of the world, reported on Friday a racist attackĀ against an Iranian immigrant.
The attack took place two months ago near Metaxourgio square, central Athens, Greece. The victim reported that while he was speaking on his cell phone, he was attacked and that his ear was bitten off by three men in black clothing.
The organization published an interview where the victim described what happened. “They beat me. Then one of them put his arm around my neck Ā biting my ear off with his teeth. I was bleeding, my ear fell to the ground.” Sometime later he was found by a friend and rushed to hospital. Ā Unfortunately doctors could not reattach the ear. The man underlined that he has seen neither humanity nor kindness in Europe, but said that the organization Doctors of the World helped him greatly.
Doctors of the world is a French non-governmental humanitarian organization founded in 1980, operating in many countries throughout the world, including Greece. Ā The organization reaches out to vulnerable people affected by war, natural disasters, diseases, hunger, poverty and exclusion. They mainly provide healthcare services and advocacy to people in need, regardless of their economic or social status.
Doctors of the World has been involved in 300 projects in more than 80 countries. The organizationĀ has around 7,000 members worldwide, approximately 360 paid staff members and 6,700 volunteers.
