Trial for Guardianship of Little Maria Postponed

Interpol says there is no maych for little girl found in Greece
The Greek court in the city of Larissa has postponed the trial for the guardianship of the little blond girl Maria, who was found living with a Roma family last October in Larissa, Greece, until next week.
As reported, the trial was postponed at the request of the Roma family. According to the family’s lawyer, the Roma couple wants to legally adopt little Maria. The lawyer has asked the court to allow the Roma mother, who is currently imprisoned in Athens, to attend the sitting next Tuesday when new evidence will be presented in favour of the plaintiffs.
Little Maria was found  in a Roma camp in Larissa, during a routine check by Greek police on October 2013. The features of the blond girl raised the concerns of authorities as her “parents” were dark-skinned. As a result they brought both the parents before the Police Headquarters of Larissa for interrogation in order to identify the origin of the child. During their questioning they repeatedly changed their story about how they came to have the child in their care. DNA testing showed that there wasn’t any genetic compatibility of heredity between Maria and the Roma couple.
After an extensive investigation the authorities discovered that the biological mother of little Maria was a woman of Bulgarian origin. The woman reported to police, that she had given the girl to the Roma couple because she couldn’t afford to raise her.
Initially the Roma couple from Greece was accused of “child abduction” and “repeated seizure of false certification.” However, after the confession of the girl’s real mother they appealed against their temporary detention and claimed the return of Maria to their family.
