Nationwide Farmers Rally Tomorrow in Athens

greek farmersAccording to the farmers union, about 1,000 farmers from Crete are expected to depart tonight from the ports of Heraklion and Chania to Piraeus to participate in the nationwide farmers rally that will be held on Friday in Syntagma Square to protest the new single property tax.
The Federation of Agricultural Associations of Heraklion has called all farmers in Crete and all landowners  to be present at the rally.
At the same time, the Regional Union of Municipalities of Crete supports the farmers fight. With an official announcement, they stated that agricultural development should be considered as one of the most important fields which will help the recovery of the Greek economy and the revival of the countryside.
Among other things, they stated that the measure will be destructive for the agricultural world and the producers throughout the country, adding that, “we support the initiatives and the mobilizations of the farmers and producers until the withdrawing of the controversial tax collecting bill.”
Farmers from every part of the country will participate in the rally that will be held on Friday at noon in Syntagma Square, Athens.
