German Chancellor Angela Merkel noted progress and stability in Greece and Cyprus. Merkel also referred to positive evolution in Portugal, while she congratulated Ireland and Spain, which managed to complete their efforts. Generally, Merkel talked about some countries of the Eurozone, which shows to achieve a primary surplus.
In a speech at the Bundestag ahead of Friday’s summit, Merkel declared, “For the first time, the European Commission in its autumn forecast observes a significant indication of an economic recovery and I believe that, even though some problems still exist, this is good news. The financial situation of the Eurozone has been improved, as we see primary surpluses in some countries after a long time.”
She noted, “We ascertained positive results in Portugal, Greece and Cyprus, which is under the financial support program,” adding, “the crisis has not fully overcome, but the combination of national solidarity and responsibility is the right way to overcome the crisis permanently.”
