More than 500 people attended the charity event which was organized by the group of teenagers and young adults “Friends of Mirto,” in Massachusetts under the auspices of the Federation of Hellenic-American Societies of New England.

The aim of the event was to raise money in order to provide economic assistance to 16-year-old Mirto, who is being hospitalized in Boston.

Mirto Papadomihelaki has been hospitalized at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston, since last June, after she was viciously attacked while on her summer holidays.

The Greek State is covering the expenses of her hospitalization at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, while the Federation of Hellenic-American Societies of New England will cover the expenses of the machine Tobii Speech Generating Device which will improve the quality of her life. The Federation also covered the expenses of the surgery she underwent in early December.

Mirto’s mother, Maria Kotrotsou, attended the charity event and in a speech of gratitude said: “I know that a lot of people fought  to make this event happen, I feel truly obliged. I know that there are many people who have donated to my child whose life turned upside down within ten minutes. So far, we have accomplished some things but she cannot speak and walk. We hope that in the future, I don’t know when or how, but she will be better.”

She also added: “I would like to thank you for supporting us, because her situation requires constant care. Two days ago, she underwent a surgery that we didn’t expect. The Federation embraced me with love and tried to help me along with Sophia (Lambropoulou) and the other girls who created the team called “Friends of Mirto” and I thank them.”

The group “Friends of Mirto” was founded by 16-year-old Sophia Lambropoulou and receives support from the Olympiacos Fan Club of New York.
