Greek Woman Donates 1 Million Dollars to Hospital in Canberra

liagki-donationSotiria Liagki, a Greek Australian philanthropist, donated 1 million dollars to the Hospital for Children and Women in Canberra. This amount will be paid gradually, over the next five years.

Sotiria Liagi and her family are famous in Canberra for their charity work and generous donations for social purposes. However she remains humble and shy’s away from conversations that focus on this.

She and her husband left Greece, emigrating to Australia in the ’60s. Her husband was a shoemaker, but later became involved with investments and real estate until eventually he created his own company. After his death, his wife Sotiria and his son Yiannis, took over the company.
