Thessaloniki: 13-year-old Girl Dies from Brazier Fumes

ambulanceThe death of a 13-year-old girl, caused by fumes, has shocked the city of Thessaloniki, Greece. The girl and her mother who had no heating or electricity in their home, lit e brazier in an effort to protect themselves against the cold. Unfortunately, the fumes poisoned the young girl. The 54-year-old mother was arrested for not having residency papers and is allegedly an illegal immigrant.
The mother and her 13-year-old daughter are from Serbia and were renting an apartment in Xirokrini, Thessaloniki. The mother testified that last night at around 10pm, and after lighting the brazier, she fainted. When she recovered an hour later, she found her daughter unconscious. She called an ambulance and attempted to revive her, but the girl did not respond.
The medical examiner found that the death of the girl was caused by the inhalation of poisonous fumes.
In March, 2013, in Larissa, Central Greece, two college students lost their lives in the same way, after lighting a brazier inside their home to warm up.
