Under the pall of scandals in the municipalities of Montreal and Laval , the municipal elections which include many Greek nominations, will be held on November 3.
In the municipality of Montreal, Denis Coderre’s party has two Greek candidates, Mary Deros in the Parc-Extension area and Helen Fotopulos in the Côte des Neiges area. Both Greek candidates have worked in the city council of Montreal taking on various occupations. Eleni Fakotakis is also a candidate with the same party in the district of Plateau. Meanwhile, candidate for Richard Bergeron’s party in the center of Montreal is Jimmy Zoubris.
In the city of Laval, which is the second largest city in metropolitan Montreal with 30,000 Greeks, according to some unofficial statistics, six Greek candidates are running for city council. Nicholas Katalifos and Aglaia Prevelakis are candidates with the party of Jean-Claude Gobé. Patricia Lagopatis and Dennis Konidis are running with Robert Bordeleau’s party. Finally, Vasilios Karidogiannis and Stella Tzintzis are running with Marc Demers’ party.
The new generation of Greeks in the municipal elections of Laval sets the tone for a renewed interest in political affairs.
