Samaras Pushes EU on Illegal Immigration and Jobs for Youth

Samaras_BrusselArriving at a meeting of European Union leaders in Brussels, Prime Minister Antonis Samaras said he would “push” for solutions to the problems of illegal immigration and youth unemployment.
As he said to reporters “We’re here to push for more Europe, for better Europe,” adding that talks on digital union and banking union were also on the agenda as well as “more jobs and growth, for the young generation.” Samaras  said that he also wanted “to make sure we find the right solution to the long problem of illegal immigration which is of great importance for countries in the southern Mediterranean area.”
Samaras is also expected to present to his EU peers, a 12-page policy framework agreed with the vice-president of the government, Evangelos Venizelos, which explains why Greece cannot handle any more austerity measures and pushes the case for debt relief.
However, he did not answer to reporters’ questions about demands from Greece’s creditors for another 2 billion euros in savings in 2014.
According to sources, Samaras met with the German Chancellor Angela Merkel on the sidelines of the meeting.
