ODPTE Extends Strike for Another 5 Days

ODPTE strikeThe Federation of Administrative Staff in Higher Education (ODPTE), announced the extension of its strike for the seventh week, until the 25th of October. In parallel, many employee unions and computer experts have revealed that the platform of the Ministry of Education, where the employees have been called to register their details for the evaluation, is unsecured and open to abuse, as To Vima reports.
Due to the ongoing strike, the administrative employees do not have access to records, in order to fill the forms for the evaluations to enter the suspension scheme, since the relevant offices are closed. The ministry has now asked those who are uncertain about important details, such as years of administrative experience or the result of prior evaluations, to fill the form by simply noting that they have doubts about the data in question.
Employee unions from the National Technical University of Athens have appealed to the Authority for Privacy of Communications (ADAE) about the Ministry of Education’s website lacking of security measures. The unions report that data is not encrypted and many other security measures are non-existent.
Moreover, according to To Vima, the website does not include the relevant personal data protection legislation, and there are no personalized access passwords for the employees’ profiles. This means that anyone can potentially edit employee data, with unions arguing that the Ministry cannot possibly act as a formal declaration with legal status.
The Ministry of Education has announced the deadline for registration on the website to be on Tuesday the 22nd of October, explaining that those who fail to register will be automatically put into suspension.
