Turks Arrested in Rhodes for "Human Smuggling"

Syrian immigrantsOn the morning of Thursday the 17th of October, two Turks illegally transferred 77 Syrian immigrants on a luxurious sailboat from the opposite side of the Turkish coast, and disembarked them at the beach of Charaki on the island of Rhodes, in the eastern Aegean Sea in Greece.
The Turkish smugglers tried to return to their country, however, the immediate mobilization of the authorities and mainly of the Central Port Authority of Rhodes resulted in them being found and arrested.
The vessel was confiscated, while the two smugglers, aged 30 and 32 years old, are being detained and led to the Misdemeanors Prosecutor’s Office. Prosecutor Konstantinos Boutsikos will file the charges.
In regards to the 77 immigrants of Syrian origin, they were transferred in the afternoon, with the assistant of the president of the Municipal Transport Facility Dimitris Koratzias in groups to Rhodes Hospital, where they were subjected to the necessary tests, while six people were provided first aid. Those six included two pregnant women, an old woman who lost consciousness, and a man with a broken leg.
