Greece Launches Early Tourism Campaigns

O. KefalogianniThe Internet is the main weapon for the communication advance of Greece to the foreign markets, which just started in order to ensure the rise of the tourism movement in 2014. The first messages concerning these early advertising efforts are particularly positive.
On Oct 16th a press conference was held in order to present the new communication strategy. During the conference, competent minister Olga Kefalogianni, after mentioning Greece’s change of image that took place during the last months, stated that this year for the first time Greece will begin its communication activities starting in October, while the campaigns will reach their peak in April.
Among others, the Greek Tourism Minister mentioned a series of actions that will stimulate the destinations of Athens and Thessaloniki as well as promoting city breaks (short holidays spent in a city, often involving visits to museums, galleries, and restaurants) to the market of Turkey, once a Ministry of Tourism office in Istanbul has been established. At the same time, a special advertising campaign is being prepared for the big travel industry exhibition World Travel Market in London.
Secretary General of the Hellenic Tourism Organization (EOT) explained that Greece will not participate in all the tourism exhibitions, but a selection will take place, which is a result of the reduced budget by 40 percent, in comparison with last year. In any case, it was stressed that Greece will be present at the big international travel industry events.
The communication tools that will be used to attract tourists include two new commercial spots created by Kostas Tseklenis, with an autumn theme that will soon be aired.  It will also include new albums, as well as upgrading Visit Greece, that will soon be available in six languages. EOT will be present in important conference events worldwide.
