Greek Government Denies Problems between Samaras and Stournaras

Stournaras-SamarasGovernment spokesman Simos Kedikoglou, denies press reports of relationship problems brewing between the Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, and Finance Minister Yiannis Stournaras.
Simos Kedigoglou stated that the publications about the Prime Minister and Mr. Stournaras have nothing to do with reality. “The Minister of Finance has the full confidence of the Prime Minister” he added.
But rumors did not only involve the publications, they also involved shots at New Democracy’s MPs to Mr. Stournaras, concerning the heating allowance. Moreover, there are additional rumors of  PASOK MP Apostolos Kaklamanis attacking the Minister of Finance in the parliament.
In regards to the publications, they were reporting a strong background focus on the Finance Minister Yiannis Stournaras and his presence in government in the last days.
The new battle against the minister is of dual origin, according to Kyriakatiki Eleftherotypia. First of all, he was once again targeted by ND’s Karamanlis wing, the so-called right-wing populist, as well as by the Mitsotakis’ wing.
Also, Nikitas Kaklamanis has asked for  the replacement of the Finance Minister several times, even with harsh words, while Dora Bakoyannis often keeps some distance from Yiannis Stournaras.
Behind the scenes of New Democracy, there’s whisper that the relationship between Antonis Samaras and the head of the economic team has begun to falter; all this  after leaks that the request for a 15% reduction on oil heating tax was sent to the troika in the absence of Mr. Stournaras, according to a central command.
PASOK MPs also accused him of wrong moves and they demand his replacement.
Furthermore, information from government sources have reached Kyriakatiki Elefterotypia, but they are not confirmed by the Prime Minister’s office or the Finance Ministry. This information refers to strategic disagreement between Mr. Samaras and Mr. Stournaras regarding the basic direction of the Greek economy. The difference in opinion is the target of Greeces exit to the capital markets in 2014, which was already declared by the Prime Minister. Mr. Stournaras who has allegedly disagreed, has never expressed such a view publicly.
