Alexander the Great Exhibited in Skopje

Alexander-the-great-wearing-a-lion-headressWax statues of historical figures that stay immutable over time of Alexander the Great, Philip II of Aristotle and Justinian have been ordered for an exhibition which will take place in The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM). The statues of these historical figures will be exhibited in a new archaeological museum in Skopje, as stated the Director of the museum Vesely Cestoeva in an interview with the newspaper Vecer.

The waxworks are some of the 15 that will be exhibited in the new museum of Skopje, which is expected to open its doors to the public at the end of the year.

Dummies of each historical figures will be placed chronologically in the era in which they lived, added Cestoeva.  The director of the new archaeological museum also stated that “anticipated “copy of the marble sarcophagus of Sidon (known as the Sarcophagus of Alexander the Great) which is kept in the Archaeological Museum of Istanbul, will arrive in fYROM from Turkey and will be exhibited in the new museum.

The new archaeological museum of FYROM is located in the center of Skopje, built on the river Vardar ( Axios ) running through the city. Meanwhile, the architecture of the building followed neoclassical style .

The museum’s collections will be exhibited in three levels in an area of 6000 square meters. Totally the exposure includes 6,000 objects about and they will be presented based on chronological series; which means from prehistoric period to the Middle Ages.
