The Hellenic Post (ELTA) celebrates 185 years of its existence, since September 24, 1828, the day that Greece’s first Governor, Ioannis Kapodistrias, signed the resolution that founded the General Post.

With the same resolution, the first five central posts were established in Argos, Tripolitsa, Epidaurus, Aegina island and Syros island, all in Greece.
On the occasion of the anniversary, the president and CEO of the Hellenic Post, Kostis Melachrinos, stated: “The Hellenic Post was identified with the establishment of the Greek State and was deeply incorporated in the Greek society, as an inseparable part of it.”
The Hellenic Post “was the bridge between homeland and Greeks all around the world, transferred their sorrows, their joys and difficulties from door to door and was connected with the Modern Greek History recording by post any great or minor event,” Melachrinos concluded.
The historical act of the Hellenic Post’s establishment by Kapodistrias marks democracy, consistency, social awareness and modernization. These elements that for 185 years have determined ELTA’s presence and function continue to be valuable in times that the Greek society is being tested.
Hellenic Post is still here, 185 years later. It provides its services and meets society’s priorities and needs with responsibility and offer.
