Four Greeks in Australian Parliament


Four Greek-Australians won seats in the Australian Parliament.

The Greek Labor MP, Maria Vamvakinou was elected in the seat of Calwell in Victoria. In the Senate, Nick Xenophon was triumphantly reelected in South Australia, while Senator Arthur Sinodinos, who has contributed significantly to the return of the Coalition in power, was also reelected in New South Wales.

Moreover, another Greek-Australian who was elected as MP, is the Liberal candidate Nicholas Varbaris in Burton, Sydney. Varvaris has been serving as a municipal councilor since 1999. However, Sophia-Mirabela Panopoulou lost her seat in Indy of Victoria to Cathy McGowan.
