Baltsa Sings Greek In Vienna Opera

Agni_MpaltsaThe internationally renowned leading Greek mezzo-soprano, Agnes Baltsa, “the Greek with the angelic voice,” as the late famed conductor Herbert Von Karajan called her as she began a brilliant career, will perform songs of Greece at the first concert for soloists for this year’s season, at the Vienna State Opera, on Sept. 18.

The Greek artist, who will be accompanied on piano by the distinguished pianist, Achilleas Wastor, will present a program with famous songs from great Greek composers Mikis Theodorakis, Manos Hadjidakis, Stavros Xarhakos, Vassilis Tsitsanis and Spyros Peristeris.

Baltsa was born in the island of the Ionian Sea, Lefkada, and is nowadays considered as “the greatest dramatic mezzo-soprano of our time.”

She is touring the most famous opera houses around the world with performances in many countries in Europe as well the USA, Latin America and Japan. Besides classical repertoire, her concerts with the Songs My Country Taught Me, under the direction of Stavros Xarhakos, have been highly applauded.
