The President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, characterized the financial changes and reforms made over the last three years in Greece as really impressive.
At the beginning of his speech before the European Parliament plenary session in Strasbourg, regarding the current situation in the European Union, Barroso maintained that thanks to some dramatic changes which have taken place during the last three years in Greece, the country is moving closer to a primary surplus.
Moreover, when he referred to the Greek economy’s image after the financial crisis began, he recalled that at that time, all leading economists were almost certain that Greece would leave or be forced to leave the Eurozone and that this would as well have a domino effect on other countries of the euro area.
However, as the European Commission President stressed, this scenario was never realized, proving them wrong.
