Greek Candidate in German Federal Elections

ellines_germany1-630x354DW pays a tribute to the Greek candidates in the upcoming German elections.

Stella Kyrgiane – Ephremidis has great chances of being elected as a member of the German parliament.

She grew up in Württemberg, went to a German school , got married and gave birth to a child. In 1985 she became a member of the German Social Democratic Party SPD.

A key criterion for this choice was the fact that the SPD not only accepted foreigners as members, but also gave them the chance to rise. In 1991, Stella Kyrgiane – Ephremidis progressively became a municipal and prefecture councilor, a member of the Bureau SPD in Baden -Württemberg, an MEP candidate and now a candidate for Bundestag in the constituency Zollernalb- Sigmaringen.

The popular politician also had proposals to be candidate in two other regions but she chose the place where she grew up.

However, this area is considered the Christian Democrat bulwark. Candidates can be elected usually with over 50 % of the votes. The place Stella Kyrgiane – Ephremidis has on the list gives her more chances to become the first MP of Greek origin in Germany.
