Cyprus is being more and more affected by the financial crisis, something that led a jobless father to give his 10-month child for adoption, in order to raise his two other minor children.
As incredible as it seems to the Cypriot reality, it is utterly true and isĀ certified by a volunteer from the charitable organization Alcyonides. The issue was brought to light by the newspaper Politis.
In order to protect the father, the volunteer did not mention any personal information that could give away his identity. However, the story itself is shocking; a former businessman affected by the crisis is not able to raise his children.
He often visits the organization, in order to get food, baby clothes and diapers for his third child.Ā But the last time he visited Alcyonides, he did not ask for diapers. He said with tears in his eyes that he was forced to take the decision to give his little child for adoption, so that in the future his newborn son has a better life.
According to the volunteer of Alcyonides, there are many similar stories in the organization every day, since the financial crisis has changed the lives of many Cypriots.
