Everything indicates that teachers will start the new school year 2013-14 with a five-day strike from September 16 to 20.
According to the teacher’s union ELME website, so far 49 local unions have voted in favor of the five-day strike.
The trade unionists of New Democracy, PASOK and KKE have filed their proposal for a 48-hour strike, but it seems that the majority of teachers want a tougher line.
The final decision will be made on September 9, but schools closing down because of a strike is almost certain, as all parties seem to want to protest.
The only thing left to be decided is the number of days teachers will go on strike. It is also certain that this strike will not be the only one, as the unions have already decided that after the strike they will reassess the situation and will make new decisions for the continuation of protests.
