Greek Municipal Election System Changing

C3630DD3B7EB965348F0C187BF3CFF09The municipal election system is changing and according to information, the changes will affect the coming elections in May 2014.
According to media reports, following the government regulation there will no longer be multiple ballots, but only two for all combinations.
One of them will be for the mayor candidates and the other for all the councilor candidates in alphabetical order. Candidates who represent 42% of the votes will be elected on the first Sunday, otherwise the first candidates will go on to a second round.
The municipal councilors will be elected on the first Sunday on the basis of proportional representation.
These changes were discussed between Antonis Samaras and Giannis Michelakis in a meeting they held on September 2.
